The food and desserts that you all brought were extremely delicious this evening! It is important to hear your voices as you express your concerns and address issues that make the parent/school relationship even better. We look forward to working with you again next year and really enhancing the parent council. It has been a pleasure for myself and Mr. Cook to work with you as the liaisons to the parent council. If you have any comments or suggestions throughout the summer, feel free to contact us. Mr. Fils-Aime On March 8th parents met to discuss the agenda for the parent council meeting. Mr. Hangis, a parent from the Uphams Corner Charter School and parent council president provided us with a sample of how the school’s news letter is going to look like. We discussed the constant maintenance of the website which is being done by Mr. Michael Hangis. He is constantly adding new materials and providing new images to the site. If you have not viewed the whole school's website lately, I encourage you to do it. We discussed the recent lottery that took place at UCCS. We reported that there were two dates where parents can come to the school and meet with Mr. Mayo in regards to the upcoming MCAS and how you can prepare your child at home. The two dates are Thursday March 15th at 6-7PM and March 17th Saturday 9:30-10:30AM at UCCS. There will be an end of the year gala. So we will forward the date for this fundraiser. Finally, there will be an email account set up for parents, and the hosts of the account will be the parent executive council. Our next meeting will be April 12th at 6pm at the Uphams Corner Health Center. Mr. Fils-Aime Febuary's meeting was cancelled due to weather conditions. We did have people at the Health Center in case anyone showed up. Here are some quick highlights from January 18th's parent meeting. We discussed the update of the school's website, and newsletter. Parents are encouraged to visit the school's website. Current news will be posted that relates to the school and parents.One of our parents, Mr. Michael Hangis has been working around the clock on our site. He will be also sending out school news letters as we send information to him. Parents talked about how to get more parents involved in meetings. Some parents suggested that maybe the next parent council meeting should be held with out any administrators. Some parents may feel more comfortable expressing themselves, and the parent executive committee could share the concerns to the school administration. We also discussed the update on the school's charter. Parents and guardians have additional opportunities to become involved in the school when they meet as a Parent Council, usually on the second Thursday of the month. The council usually meets at the Uphams Corner Health Center at 6pm.If not we will post the new meeting place. Please check calendar for dates.
