& Community Center Parents are the cornerstones of the Uphams Corner Charter School. A visionary group of parents took a leap of faith during the summer of 2002 and trusted the education of their children to complete strangers with a dream. Not surprisingly, the dreams of the parents and the school founders were the same: To provide their children with a complete and enriching education. |

UCCS teachers
are in constant communication with parents and call regularly with updates. Every week, each student receives a progress report that details exactly how the student is progressing in class. Head of School Edward M. Cook is always available for parent conferences, as are Principal Michael Mayo and Assistant Principal Francois Fils-Aime, the school nurse, and all other faculty and administration. Parents' Council Parents and guardians have additional opportunities to become involved in the school when they meet as a Parent Council, usually on the second Thursday of the month. The council usually meets at the Uphams Corner Health Center at 6pm. If not, we will post the new meeting place. Please check calendar for dates. The school calendar |

| The more parents and guardians
who attend, the stronger our council and school.
We also encourage parents who have the time to come to the school and volunteer as classroom aides, lunch supervisors, library aides, or staff assistants. As the school grows, volunteer opportunities will expand. What Makes Uphams Corner different? One teacher translated our mission into her own words. We think she did an excellent job: "At this school we want everyone learning and everyone heard." Our job is to make sure you have a strong powerful say in the way the school is run, in the way people are treated, and in the way justice is served. This is just as much your school as anyone else's, so speak up-responsibly, brilliantly, and honestly. We thank all our parents for their courage and their trust, and look forward to helping them make their dreams for their children a reality.
